Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH)
Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad is a local body established under Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act 1955.
The Act envisages that the Municipal Authorities will consist of
A Corporation
A Standing Committee
A Commissioner
The city is administered by Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH), whose titular head is the Mayor who has few executive powers. The real executive power of the corporation is vested in the Municipal Commissioner, an IAS officer appointed by the Andhra Pradesh state government. The MCH is in charge of the civic needs and infrastructure of the metropolis. Hyderabad is divided into hundred municipal wards, each overseen by a corporator. The corporators of the administration are voted through a popular vote and almost all the state political parties field their candidates. Functions of the Corporation:
Broadly there are two categories of duties of the Corporation: Discretionary
The Obligatory duties relate to erection of substantially boundary marks defining the limits of the city; maintenance of public streets, roads, public health and other matters relating to sanitation and improvement of the city etc. Matters which may be provided for the Corporation at its discretion relate to the general welfare of various classes of the population, transport facilities and furtherance of educational objects, improvement of socio-economic status of the inhabitants of the city etc. The Municipal Corporation is primarily the main deliberative organ. Its strength is prescribed by the Act at 100.The Corporation meets for the transaction of business at such time and place as may be fixed by the Mayor, in his absence by the Deputy Mayor, and in the absence of both by the Chairman of the Standing Committee.
